– Do I really need this t-shirt?
12 January 2026
Fast fashion, with its ever-changing trends, offers us “more” every week, but it actually takes much more from the world. Cheap production, short lifespans, and a constant cycle of consumption deplete water resources, pollute the soil, and release tons of carbon into the atmosphere. The water used to produce one t-shirt can be equivalent to 70 liters of water, the amount a person could drink in a month. So, to satisfy our dopamine needs, shouldn't we ask ourselves this question before buying? – Do I really need this t-shirt? I used to be a shopaholic like everyone else. When I had to move abroad and couldn't fit my whole life into five suitcases, it made me think about this.
But it's not just about nature; behind this system are often unfair working conditions, low wages, and invisible labor. While fast fashion gives us speed, it slowly wears down the world. Do we want to be a part of this?
We can change this cycle by making more conscious choices. Shopping for second-hand items, supporting local producers, and choosing fewer but higher-quality pieces are steps that seem small but have a big impact. Because fashion is not just about what we wear, but about what we stand for.
With love,
